1K (and 2K) sector sizes on BSD fast filesystem ?

I am interested in some of the new optical (both WORM and read-write) disk
drives available. However, many seem to use sector sizes larger than
512bytes, often 1024 or 2048. Can someone please give me an assessment or
estimate of what is involved and the drawbacks of hacking a 4.3BSD or Sun
OS disk driver to use 1K or 2K sector sizes, rather than the assumed
512byte sector sizes. Please email responses. Thanks.
