Scantool v1.4 has just been posted in comp.sources.x. This is a program
that allows you to interface a Microtec MS300A scanner to a computer via
an RS232 connection, and scan documents which will be converted to images
in Sun rasterfile format.

There are graphical interfaces for SunView and XView.

Couple points to note.

1/ The program that does the actual scanning is separate from the
graphical frontend, so you don't need a graphics screen with Sunview or
XView in order to run it (although it's easier because there are a lot of
   command line options).

2/ The scan program contains code to take CCITT Group 3 data and convert
it to a Sun rasterfile. It has quite a fast algorithm. This might be
useful to other people besides scanner users.

See the README and manual page with the posting for more details.
