Accounting and Postscript Printing

I have a postscript printer driver which I have been using for over a year
now. It is a filter program for use with lpd(8) to print postscript files
on a postscript printer. In this sense, it merely copies data from the
input to the output stream, but has features to allow a burst page to be
printed ahead of each job and also records accounting information. The
print filter uses postscript to handshake with the printer and so if no
postscript printer is connected to the indicated device, no jobs are
printed

The most important optional feature of the filter is that it allows
printer useage to be restricted by implementing a quota system whereby a
user has a certain page quota which is reduced appropriately after each
print job. If a user has no quota then the print job is thrown away.

A print job is discarded if it is incorrect postscript or if the user has
no quota.

I can send a shar file to anybody upon request or I'll send to the archive
if demand is high.

I also use a PD version of the transcript troff->PS program for use with
the AT+T documentors workbench. I'll have a root around for any useful
e-mail addresses for that.
