Third party SCSI disks for SPARCstations

I have been told that various third-party SCSI disks intended for the
Macintosh can be used with Sun SPARCstations.  Does anyone have any direct
experience (good or bad) in doing this?  Any problems with particular
brands, interface incompatibilities, cables, formatting, etc?
