Network Traffic

I am working on a network comprised of approx 25 subnets seperated by
Cisco routers. Each subnet has a mixed bag of equipment ie. Suns, Vaxen,
HP's, PC's, etc.

Typical utilization on the subnets which have a majority of VAX/PCs are in
the 3 to 5 percent range.. The PC's are running Novell. The Vaxes are
running Decnet Phase IV and TCP/IP.

On the subnets with a majority of Sun workstations: We are seeing average
utilizations of 30 to 40 % during working hours and 25 to 30 percent
during off hours.

My question is is this NORMAL utilization values or am I doing something
wrong on the Sun subnets to cause these high values. Depending on who you
talk to this is normal or very high. Some say the net is dying, some say
it is just growing. Any input wouild be appreciated.

I would like to hear from people who have a large number of Suns on their
network to find out what they believe is a normal range for baseband
ethernet utilization.
