Getting tcp/ip working on ps/2 aix 1.2

Hi net; I'm having a few problems getting the tcp/ip stuff working
on an ps/2 mod80 (8Mb ram), and would appreciate a few hints. I have
an U-B ethernetcard, the same HW (machine/card) worked nicely with
aix 1.1. What I did: (1) nuked what was on the disk, installed aix 1.2
fresh, (2) installed OS extensions, (3) installed tcp/ip - all seems
the be ok. (4) enter "devices" and make a few pty's and the lan device
"ethernet0". (5) edit rc.tcpip so that we have eigth bits in the subnet
mask and a proper broadcastaddress. (6) make sure "routed" starts,
(7) reboot. Now: "ifconfig net0" looks nice, no trailers, running, proper
netmask etc - but I don't know why it says "metric 3"; "netstat -r" looks
ok. Ping localhost and my machine name/IP -> OK. Everything else: nil.
To the best of my knowledge I followed the installation manuals, and I
haven't seen any bad errors. [All done in the best possible taste]

It's a thin ethernet, and I know for sure the cable is working fine.
Local IBM have adviced me to check if the cable is plugged in etc.,
it is :-) I'm hoping the net migth have an idea. If not I'll take the card
and adapter over to an dos-box (not too big a problem, but I wanted
to see if there's an easy sollution to this first) just to re-check
that the card/tranciever is ok.

Please respond to me personally, if somebody want's me to sum answers
I'll do it that. Thanks.

regards, Bjorn Asle
