Booting an XStation 120 from non RS6000 systems

When the RS/6000 was announced, I wrote an 83-page report
that describes the entire family.  This report contains the answers
to many important questions, including this one. I read the same tech
article and asked about this issue specifically.

I will reproduce the answer below.  For anyone who is interested in obtaining
the report, I will post the info in a separate post.

"Will the Xstation work with non-RS/6000 systems?

The X-Station is a standard X-Terminal.  In principle, it will
work with any X-Window based system: an IBM mainframe, RT or PS/2
running AIX; a PS/2 or PC running non-IBM Unix; a Sun workstation;
a DEC minicomputer -- anything.

However, as we explained above, the Xstation starts by downloading
its startup program from the host.  This means that the Xstation can work
only with hosts that are set up to transfer this program.

Right now, this is available from IBM only for RS/6000's.
However, a third-party vendor has promised support for the IBM RT
and for selected Sun worstations and DEC Ultrix computers.  
Later this year, IBM will provide software for PS/2's running
AIX.  We expect that support for all the other major systems will
be forthcoming."
