High FLOPS/buck machines

We want to buy a compute/file-server for our lab. Currently we have
two Sun 3/50's and a third one on order, all connected with ethernet to
other computers in our building and on the campus. Our applications
include computer simulation of communications systems. This involves
running programs which take days to complete on a Sun 3/50. One system
that we are considering is the Sun 4/110 which sun is currently offered
to our university at considerable discounts (does this mean that they
have something new to replace it?). I would like advice on high
MIPS/buck (and FLOPS/buck) systems costing less than $50,000CDN (say
$35,000US) for a complete configuration (MIPS, Appolo, HP?). Thanks in
advance.
