DECstation 2100 with Seagate 4766N system disk?

I want to buy a DECstation 2100 without the internal 120 MByte disk and
use a Seagate 4766N (was CDC/Imprimis Wren IV) disk with SCSI interface.
For the first time I want to boot the DS2100 from another DS 3100 with a
external DEC 380 MByte disk and a TK 50 cartridge over an Ethernet.
Finally I want to format and partition the Seagate disk and install the
operating system on that disk so that I can subsequently boot from it.

Is this possible and a reasonable idea? How do I format and partition
the Seagate disk? What must I do to make that disk the system disk?

Any help appreciated, Martin.
