Reading 'foriegn' tapes

I am looking for a program that can be used to read and write( not
really necessary ) 'foriegn' tapes on our Pyramid. I am quite happy
to buy a commercial product but haven't heard of one yet.

The sort of thing we want must be able to read tapes created by VMS,
'files11' or whatever, ANSI Labelled tapes etc. Our operators often
get given a tape by a user from another university and are asked to
get filex from this tape please. They normally poke around with 'dd'
but that is really very time consuming and often not particularly
successful.

If anyone is using something they think might help please let me know.
