FIle locking in /bin/mail

Since upgrading to SunOS 4.1 on my main mail machine, I have been plagued
with obscure mail problems that I believe I have tracked to /bin/mail,
the actual delivery agent. I can demonstrate unusual behavior by the SunOS
binmail program that does not occur with the delivermail program available
from UCB in the sendmail v5.64 release as binmail/binmail.c.

Unfortunatley, the UCB and SunOS programs use different file locking protocols
on the incoming mail spool file so I suspect that I would have to replace all
mail-proccesing programs if I wanted to replace the SunOS program with its
UCB counterpart.

Does anyone have patches for the UCB version to allow it to do file locking
like the SunOS version or can anyone indicate the changed needed?

	Thanx,
	 David
