This may have already been discussed and if so I apologize for
bringing it up again. We are porting an application to a
decstation 3100 under Ultrix 3.1. The default /bin/sh on this
machine is a very ancient version of the bourne shell. A more
up-to-date shell is provided as /bin/sh5. Does anyone have
experience with renaming /bin/sh5 to be /bin/sh? If so, did
this cause any problems? How much experience have you had with
the system after doing it? Can we expect any problems with
updating the system with Ultrix 3.X or whatever? Also, as a
matter of some curiosity, will the ksh work as /bin/sh on this
system? I have heard rumors that it didnt under Ultrix 3.0 but
never what the problem was.
Reply by email and if this topic hasnt been beaten to death
already, I will summarize to the net.
