Where is gethostbyname()?

I just installed 3.0 and I'm trying to build NNTP.  During link, it
bombs because it can't find gethostbyname().  I have a man page for it
but I checked every library I can think of and I can't find it.

NNTP built just fine under 2.2.  Did I forget to install something?
