My site currently does not perform chargeback accounting for computer resources. It seems that we might have to do this in the near future. The level of
accounting that people here are looking for is an accounting down to a username/
job number. Each username has a number of "job numbers" applicable which makes
things a little more difficult. We need to account for as many of the resources
used as possible including disk space and printouts. I have a variety of UNIX
flavors: MIPS (system v), Ultrix, Celerity 1230.

What I am looking for are some pointers to resource accounting packages, their
costs, efforts...etc.

Also, I would be interested in hearing about the success/failure of chargeback
accounting. How long did it take to get the package up on one system? on a
number of systems? How much maintenance activities are required and how much
manpower should be allocated for this task?

Experiences and comments are definitely welcome here.

Thanks....
