Strange 5840 error log messages

I've been getting the following ASCII message records (event type 250)
in the error log. I called the DEC's CSC but they didn't know what they
meant or where they were coming from. I did a strings on /vmunix and
they appear in the output so its something in the kernel that's outputting
them. I couldn't locate the messages in the "Kernel Messages" manual. It
could be that they're left over debugging messages and can be safely ignored
but I'd like to know for sure.
We're running Ultrix 4.0 (with the mandatory patches) on a DEC System 5840
with an HSC70. Is anyone else seeing the problem? We're also running
Ultrix 4.0 on a VAX 8650 with an HSC70 and don't get any messages there.
