dump problem solved

Chalk one up for DEC support. The reason my dump/rdump commands started
dumping core instead of file systems was because of the following line
in the fstab file:

userdisk at argo:/nfs/argo/userdisk:rw:0:0:nfs:soft,retry=1000,bg,rw

We have MULTINET NFS and I just started mounting stuff off our VMS system.
Although the above fstab entry mounted the directory fine, it causes
dump to dump core. The fix was to change it to:

/userdisk at argo:/nfs/argo/userdisk:rw:0:0:nfs:soft,retry=1000,bg,rw

Which makes everyone happy!
