    I agree whole-heartedly. The main problem that I see is having a sufficiently
    eclectic (sp?) moderator (no matter where in the world) to sift through
    the varied topics.

Certainly a good idea, when you get back from XMAS break and find 348 (!)
articles to read!  An even better idea is to have moderated sub-groups
e.g. mod.unix-wiz.vax mod.unix-wiz.bugs  etc.  Such sub-groups need not
be moderated by the one person, relieving any potential load on whoever it
is, and also separating the articles into some more sensible groupings.
