	The error message in the sources is "No kmem".  Spelling
	counts.  The error occurs if the open(2) on /dev/kmem
	fails.  So, if the file does indeed exist:

	1.  Make sure it's a special device file.

	2.  w(1) has read permission.  On V4.0 and later this
	    means that w(1) needs to run setgid and be in group
	    kmem.
