question re: vega video 7 card with sco xenix

I bought a used SCO Xenix OS v2.2.1 with v2.2.3  upgrade K
for my 286 home computer.  I have a Vega Video Seven VGA card 
running in EGA mode with a NEC multisync II monitor.  When I
try to install the OS the very first thing I see on booting
is a screen full of garbage.  It appears to be the installation
menu in alternate characters.  The manual says I may have to
get a different video card.

Is there any way around this?  If I use an old CGA card and
monitor to install the OS, is there any way to get back to
using my EGA monitor after the installation and put the CGA 
card back in the basement?
