[bug-poison]

just received the announcements of the April-selections,
and thought you all might want to take notice:

------------------------------------------------------------------
UNIX Programmer's Manual, Vol 1, revised and expanded edition.
424 pages, by Bell Labs. list $35, members $28

UNIX Programmer's Manual, Vol 2, revised and expanded edition.
616 pages, by Bell Labs. list $35, members $28

Computational Aspects of VLSI, by Jeff Ullman, 496 pages, members $25

Software Productivity, by Harlan Mills, $20

Pascal for Programmers, by Olivier Lecarme and Jean-Louis Nebut, $18

Managing High-Technology Companies, by Henry Riggs. $26.50
------------------------------------------------------------------

The deal they offer isn't bad, and I've compiled quite a collection of
good books over the past 10 years, at good prices. They offer about 6
selections about 14 times a year, and you have to send the postcard back
else you receive the selection of the month, automatically. But, it's
likely that they don't do that, on request (just say, you are travelling
a lot, etc)

They advertise, in many publications, that a new subscriber can choose
one or several books for $1 plus postage+handling (which I've found to be
reasonable in the past). But, if you get recruited by a present member,
the deal is even better. You get to choose books for max $67 list (max 3)
and the recruiter gets books for $45 for the first new member and for $67
for any other. It is my habit to pass on the bonus books to the new
member when I recruit one (often myself, after filling the quota (-: )
and anyone who can't locate a friend willing to do this, is welcome to
take me up on this. Before I forget, your obligation is to buy only 3
books, no minimum price-total, which I've found easy. They really offer
enough good books. To order you need a flyer of RECENT SELECTIONS, which
lists the books and prices available for the bonus deal, unfortunately,
the Selections of the month are not selectable, and sometimes, they sell
out completely, so that they don't appear in next months "RECENT SELECTIONs"

BTW, RECENT SELECTIONs include Vols 1-3 of The Handbook of AI at good discounts.
Now, if I could only remember who recently posted a note, saying that
recruiting a new member would get you all 3 volumes of the AI-Handbook.
That was either a bad rumor, or they made that offer only to a selected few.

[ Disclaimer. I am not a disinterested party - I own the whole company (-: ]
