Religion, smidgen!  What's failed to surface in this discussion is that
perl makes programming fun again!
 
And the damn things work w/o hours of debugging.  Hmmmm... maybe that's
why it's fun.
 
I think that's why you're seeing a lot of perl script sources these days.
People are having fun writing this stuff.  They wouldn't even bother
starting in Bourn shell, much less debug and distribute.
 
Try the QOTD server in alt.sources.  My hat's off to whoever does this
one in sh.
