EDT for 4D

>From time to time I have requested and have seen requests on the
net for the VAX-VMS EDT editor to run on SGI 4D machines. I now
have received two different commercial EDT versions for the 4D.
We are currently evaluating these. Both seem to work just fine
and before someone complains I do not own stock in either company.
I am posting this for all of you who came from a VMS machine and
do not like VI or EMACS.

MESIRA, 3109 Scotts Valley Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066
(408)-425-7115 sells a modified version of UNIPRESS EMACS which
seems to be a very nice emulation of EDT.

Boston Business Computing, Ltd., 360 Merrimack Street, Riverwalk
Center, Lawrence, Massachusetts 01843 (508)-683-7920 sells two
products: EDT+ and VCL. EDT+ is a stand alone EDT editor.
VCL is a shell like CSH or SH which looks very close to the VAX-VMS
DCL command language. VCL is not 100% DCL because it is a shell on
a UNIX box, but it is close.

I know I will be flamed because I seem to want to make my 4D look
like a VMS machine. I do not care. After all, isn't UNIX supposed
to adapt to my needs instead of what some computer scientist thinks
that I need. I now run EDT on our VMS machines,
our IBM-PC's, our PDP-11's and our SGI machines. It is nice not being
forced to use a reincarnation of TECO just because the UNIX box is
more cost effective.

That really should get a few flames.
