Subject: Color thermal wax printers

We were asked to come up with a purchase order for a color
postscript printer in the next couple of days (some surprise!) and based
on price have to think about thermal wax technology. A recent review in
MacUser (May, 1991) rated the Tektronix Phaser PX highly. Is the QMS
Colorscript 100 as inferior as the reviewers imply? Can anybody out there
confirm whether the Phaser PX, or even this technology, is a good
investment? Any comments on reliability or serviceability?

This topic might even qualify as a FAQ. I followed discussion of
color output the last couple of months, but we can't afford D2T2 (the print
size on the small Kodak is too small). I've noticed several postings to this
list that trash color postscript output, although a recent posting (and the
review) suggests that this is due to poor choice of screen angles. We
absolutely do not have enough time to research this decision in a
conventional way, like getting a demonstration from the vendor!

Thanks for any help. E-mail is fine.
