speeding the printer on /dev/ttya

We've got an Apple LaserWriter IIntx connected to our ttya serial port.
The printcap entry for that device sets the baud rate to 9600. I'm sorry
if this question has been asked before, but is it possible to get higher
data transfer rates through that ttya port? What is the maximum one can
go? I tried 57600 (that is the max of the apple lw), but things got
hung... At 9600, a 1 megabyte postscript image takes about 20 minutes to
print. A quick calculation shows that 14 of those 20 minutes are spent in
the data transfer alone. So speeding up the transfer rate would help
alot. Please respond to tomc at zeppelin.llnl.gov. Thanks very much!
